About the Rheumatology Baseline blood test

Rheumatoid arthritis can be difficult to diagnose because many conditions cause joint stiffness and inflammation and there’s no definitive test for the condition.

Our blood test measures levels of rheumatoid factors in the blood. Rheumatoid factors are proteins that the immune system produces when it attacks health tissue. Alongside this our test also check infection and inflammation markers to better assess for rheumatoid arthritis. This test also checks anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) which are antibodies also produced by the immune system.

Why choose us?

We are a multi award winning clinic based in London, with awards from Whatclinic clinic of the year, GHP outstanding patient care and LUX best private ultrasound provider to name a few. Our clinical lead Mr. Usman is well known and respected in the industry and has been featured in the Huffington Post and performed scans live on ITV.

We pride ourselves on providing the best quality service we can which is why we are trusted by GP's, doctors, physiotherapists, midwives and many other healthcare professionals.

Our mission of better quality healthcare for everyone is at the heart of everything we do and drives us to do the best we can for each and every patient that we see. Our team of experts have years of experience and are fully registered and regulated meaning you are in safe hands with us.

Biomarker information for Rheumatology Baseline blood test

This blood test includes the biomarkers shown below along with information about each biomarker.
Full Blood Count – FBC

This is a test to check the types and numbers of cells in your blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. This can help give an indication of your general health, as well as provide important clues about certain health problems you may have.

Haemaglobin, HCT, RCC, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, Platelet count, MPV, WCC.

Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate – ESR

An erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a blood test that that can show if you have inflammation in your body. Inflammation is your immune system’s response to injury, infection, and many types of conditions, including immune system disorders, certain cancers, and blood disorders.

An ESR test can be used with other tests to help diagnose conditions that cause inflammation. It can also be used to help monitor these conditions. Many types of conditions cause inflammation, including arthritis, vasculitis, infection, and inflammatory bowel disease. An ESR may also be used to monitor an existing condition.

This can affect or useful or:
Uric Acid

Uric acid is a waste product produced from the breakdown of chemical compounds called purines. Purine occurs naturally in the body, but it is also found in the food we eat – and in some foods more than others.

This can affect or useful or:
Rheumatoid Factor

A rheumatoid factor test is one of a group of blood tests primarily used to help pinpoint a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. This test is an immunology test to measure rheumatoid factor in your blood, which can attack healthy tissue.

This can affect or useful or:
Anti-CCP Antibodies

Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibodies, also called CCP antibodies, are a type of antibody called autoantibodies. Antibodies and autoantibodies are proteins made by the immune system. Antibodies protect you from disease by fighting foreign substances like viruses and bacteria. Autoantibodies can cause disease by attacking the body’s healthy cells by mistake.

This can affect or useful or:
C-Reactive Protein (CRP)

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is an inflammation marker used to assess whether there is inflammation in the body – it does not identify where the inflammation is located. When you suffer a serious injury or infection you experience significant inflammation around the site of injury – such as the swelling around a twisted ankle. Any injury like this will cause your CRP to rise.

What does the Rheumatology Baseline blood test involve?

This blood test is just like a standard blood test.

You will be asked to uncover you left or right arm and suitable vein is found. A tourniquet will be placed and tightened around your upper arm allowing the veins to swell and a needle will be placed into your vein. A small quantity of blood is then drawn into tubes. Once the procedure is complete a small plaster will be placed onto the site which can be removed after a few hours.

How do I prepare

  • The blood test requires access to the area of interest, therefore, it is recommended to wear loose clothing to facilitate this process.
  • No specific preparation is required for this scan.

I've been to this clinic 4 times over the past 7 years for both pregnancy scans and health scans.... What sterling services they consistently provide! Booking is always easy either online or over the phone, minimum waiting time, and calming environment. What's most impressive is that Mr Usman always explained the scan results thoroughly in a calm and professional way on site and in a report, and quickly spotted issues that both my hospital scan and community clinic scan completely missed (the sonographer at the hospital even asked where I did my scan as she was impressed)! This helped me eventually get timely referral and free from lots of stress. I always feel being well looked after by the team and will wholehearted recommend them to anyone who is looking for efficient, caring and professional help.read more
