About the Vitamins Blood Test – Basic blood test
Vitamins are organic compounds that people need in small quantities. Most vitamins need to come from food because the body either does not produce them or produces very little. Different vitamins play different roles in the body, and a person requires a different amount of each vitamin to stay healthy.
Our basic vitamins blood profile checks the levels of Vitamins A, C and a variety of key B- vitamins. These vitamins are important to the regular function of many different systems and parts of the body.
Vitamins A and E are fat-soluble whereas B and C are water soluble. You body stores fat-soluble vitamins in fatty tissue and the liver, and reserves of these vitamins can stay in the body for days and sometimes months. Water-soluble vitamins do not stay in the body for long and cannot be stored. They leave the body via the urine. Because of this, people need a more regular supply of water-soluble vitamins than fat-soluble ones.
Biomarker information for Vitamins Blood Test – Basic blood test
This test measures the concentration of retinol in the blood; retinol is the primary form of vitamin A in animals. Vitamin A is an essential nutrient required for healthy vision, skin growth and integrity, bone formation, immune function, and embryonic development. It is required to produce photoreceptors in the eyes and to maintain the lining of the surface of the eyes and other mucous membranes.
The B vitamins are all crucial for cell metabolism, normal functioning of the central nervous system and the formation of red blood cells. This test measures the level of vitamin B1 in your blood.
Vitamin B is vital for central nervous system to function normal and the formation of RBC (red blood cells). Vitamin B assists in metabolising fat and protein and converting the food consumed into fuel (energy) for the body. All B vitamins are water-soluble. Also known as thiamine, like B2 this vitamin helps in the processes of digestion and also to ensure a well functioning nervous system. A balanced diet should provide ample B1.
Vitamin B2 is a water-soluble vitamin. The predominant form is found in red blood cells and has important functions in energy production and as an anti-oxidant.
Vitamin B6 is a vitamin that benefits the central nervous system and metabolism. Its roles include turning food into energy and helping to create neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine. Vitamin B6 is one of eight B vitamins. This group of vitamins is important for proper cell function.
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin. Your body cannot make or store vitamin C, so we obtain it through food. Alongside being a powerful antioxidant, vitamin C helps your body form and maintain connective tissue, including bones, blood vessels, and the skin (for the biosynthesis of collagen). Vitamin C also helps to strengthen the immune system and aid iron absorption.
A vitamin E test measures the amount of vitamin E in your blood. Vitamin E (also known as tocopherol or alpha-tocopherol) is a nutrient that is found in every cell of your body. It helps your nerves and muscles work well, prevents blood clots, and boosts your immune system, so it can fight off infections from germs.
Vitamin E is a type of antioxidant, which means that it protects cells from damage. But if you have too little or too much vitamin E in your body, it can cause serious health problems.

What does the Vitamins Blood Test – Basic blood test involve?
This blood test is just like a standard blood test.
You will be asked to uncover you left or right arm and suitable vein is found. A tourniquet will be placed and tightened around your upper arm allowing the veins to swell and a needle will be placed into your vein. A small quantity of blood is then drawn into tubes.
