About the ECG Test
A 12 lead ECG test (electrocardiogram) is a quick, non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of your heart. It helps assess how well your heart is beating and whether its rhythm is normal. At The Scan Clinic, our ECG test in London is carried out using modern state-of-the-art equipment, providing accurate and reliable results in a calm, clinical setting.
The test itself takes just a few minutes and involves placing small sensors on the chest, arms and legs to capture your heart’s electrical signals.
Objective of the test
The objective of an ECG test is to assess the electrical activity of the heart and identify any abnormalities in heart rhythm or function. An ECG test in London is often used as a first-line investigation to quickly check how the heart is beating and whether it is working in a normal, coordinated way.
An ECG test helps to:
- Detect irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias)
- Identify unusually fast or slow heartbeats
- Look for signs of previous or ongoing heart strain
- Assess symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations, dizziness or shortness of breath
- Provide reassurance when heart-related symptoms are unexplained
An ECG can not diagnose every heart condition, but it plays an important role in determining whether further tests or specialist review are needed. At The Scan Clinic, our ECG test London service focuses on early detection, clear explanation of results, and guidance on appropriate next steps where necessary.
Why choose us for your ECG Test
Why do I need an ECG Test?
You may consider an ECG test in London if you are experiencing symptoms or have risk factors that could be related to your heart. ECG tests are commonly used to help assess:
Chest pain or chest tightness
Palpitations or an irregular heartbeat
Dizziness, fainting, or shortness of breath
A family history of heart disease
Concerns identified during another health check
Medical, occupational, or fitness clearance requirements
Even if symptoms are mild or intermittent, an ECG can be a useful first-line test to provide reassurance or to highlight whether further medical assessment may be needed.
Important:
If you think you may be having a heart attack, or are experiencing severe or worsening chest pain, collapse, or other life-threatening symptoms, call 999 immediately or attend A&E. This ECG service is not suitable for suspected heart attacks or medical emergencies and must not be used as an alternative to urgent care.

What does an ECG test show?
An ECG test in London can provide valuable insight into your heart health, including:
- Abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias)
- Signs of an irregular or fast heartbeat
- Evidence of previous heart strain or damage
- Electrical conduction issues within the heart
An ECG is a critical first-line assessment, but it can not identify all heart conditions. Your ECG results will report findings from the ECG test and highlight if further review or investigation is required, which may include consulting with your GP for further medical assessment, such as a cardiology referral.
Benefits of having an ECG test
Having an ECG test in London offers a fast and reliable way to assess your heart rhythm and overall electrical heart activity. It provides valuable information that can help identify potential heart issues early or offer reassurance when symptoms are unexplained.
Key benefits include:
- Quick and non-invasive assessment of heart rhythm
- Early detection of abnormal or irregular heartbeats
- Support in investigating symptoms such as chest discomfort or palpitations
- Reassurance and peace of mind about your heart health
- Written ECG summary and report.
An ECG test is often the first step in understanding heart-related symptoms and can help prevent more serious issues by identifying concerns early.
