Finding out that you’re pregnant is one of the most memorable moments of your life. The first few weeks are a time of tremendous excitement, and the 12 week pregnancy scan can feel like a lifetime away.
Our private early pregnancy ultrasound scan sometimes called early reassurance scan or 6 week private pregnancy scan is designed to provide you with reassurance in the early stages of your first trimester. If you’re at least 6 weeks pregnant, it’s the chance to assess the viability of the pregnancy with an ultrasound scan; and if all is well, it’s also the opportunity to view your baby’s heartbeat.
At your private early reassurance scan, you can also gain insight into how many weeks pregnant you are (gestational age), and how well everything is progressing in the pregnancy.
If you’re experiencing any bleeding or unusual pain, an early pregnancy scan can help provide you with peace of mind and find out for certain how your pregnancy is progressing. When you come for your scan at The Scan Clinic, we’ll make sure that you feel comfortable, relaxed and well prepared for the experience.
If visible, assess the location and viability of an early pregnancy from 6 to 11 weeks using ultrasound.
Determine if single or multiple pregnancies.

A full bladder may be required for this pregnancy scan, therefore, please drink 0.5 litres of fluid approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment and please try your best not to empty your bladder before the examination.
An internal scan may be needed particularly in the early stages of your pregnancy. This may be offered at the start of the appointment instead of the scan over your tummy as it may give better information.
Please bring along any information / medical notes / reports which are in concerning your pregnancy as they may provide useful information for the scan.
We pride ourselves on providing high-quality service and as such employ high-quality imaging protocols, pathways and procedures. We are trusted by GP's, doctors, physiotherapists, midwives and many other healthcare professionals.
Our clientele also includes doctors, consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, bankers, lawyers and many other professionals who have chosen us based on our reputation.
Furthermore, we have provided services to large national organisations and unlike other many other diagnostic clinics provide services to specific NHS organisations which require us to have in place extremely strict quality control measures.
You will be cared for by a small team and seen by a specialist healthcare professional who has proven experience and specialises in clinical medical ultrasound. Unlike other diagnostic imaging ultrasound is "real-time" imaging, and the quality of the scan and ultimately the information you take away depends upon the expertise, experience & skill of the person scanning you. This is an important point for consideration hence why at The Scan Clinic you will always be seen by an expert who has vast expertise and experience in the field of medical ultrasound.
An ultrasound scan is a painless test that provides images of the inside of the body by using high-frequency sound waves. These sound waves are at a frequency which cannot be heard by the human ear but when they bounce off different parts of the body, create echoes that are picked up by the probe and turned into a moving image.
Unlike other scans such as MRI and CT, ultrasound does not involve radiation and is in real-time i.e. live imaging and is not static i.e. still pictures. This live information is interpreted and is used as the basis of the subsequent diagnostic report.
Many kinds of ultrasound scans can be performed as ultrasound has numerous applications in healthcare and are ultimately beneficial to us if used in the right context by a competent body or person. However, as with any test, ultrasound scans have limitations some of which are generic to all scans such as not being able to visualise bone clearly or scan specific and therefore may not be suitable in certain situations and like any test can not diagnose every problem.
