Private Musculoskeletal Service FAQ's

What is a musculoskeletal service?

You can choose where they receive treatment, which sometimes means they get treatment from both the NHS and private sectors. You can also choose to continue physiotherapy treatment privately once your NHS treatment has finished.

Who will I see?

You will be seen by one of expert MSK specialists. Our team includes Advanced Physiotherapists and Consultant ultrasound specialists. All our physiotherapists are registered with and regulated by the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) and the CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy). They are highly experienced and are advanced physiotherapists meaning they have extended scope qualifications in areas such as diagnostic ultrasound and injection therapy.

Our Medical Experts

Why choose us?

We pride ourselves on providing the best quality service we can which is why we are trusted by GP’s, doctors, physiotherapists, midwifes and many other healthcare professionals.

Our mission of better-quality healthcare for everyone really sets us apart from the vast majority of other clinics and is the main reason why we are amongst the few diagnostic clinics to not only be approved by but also provide services to the NHS and thus the general public. This also means that unlike many other clinics we have additional strict quality control measures which we must adhere to meaning you are in safe hands with us and our team.

What can a musculoskeletal ultrasound scan show?

An ultrasound scan provides information about your body and can show us a lot! This includes internal structures such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint spaces and signs of wear and tear to these structures. The scan allows our experienced clinicians to assess if these structures are damaged such as a tear or swelling leading to inflammation. Ultrasound is a painless test and is performed in real time allowing movements of your muscles and joints, unlike other scans such as MRI and CT which are still images. This allows us to dynamically check the muscular structures to see if they are working properly. This live information is interpreted during the scan and is used as the basis of the subsequent diagnostic report.

There are many possible reasons for having muscular scans including joint or muscular pain, swelling or stiffness of your joints, reduced movements, joint or muscular injury, muscular trauma, rotator cuff problems, muscle tears, check for torn tendons such as a the Achilles, impingement syndrome, bursitis, hematomas, joint effusions, or swelling.

We use high resolution state of the art ultrasound machines manufactured by one of the Worlds leading and most reputable healthcare brands. These are coupled with our expert highly experienced clinicians to provide you with the best ultrasound scan care.

What are the differences between a musculoskeletal ultrasound and others?

A Musculoskeletal Ultrasound doesn’t require an injection of a contrast agent. Because it doesn’t use radiation, it poses none of the health risks associated with X-rays. Unlike in the case of MRI, you aren’t confined in an enclosed space, so you won’t experience claustrophobia.

Why is musculoskeletal health important?

Poor MSK health has a huge impact on people, their employers, the NHS and the wider economy. In fact, over 30 million working days are lost due to MSK conditions every year in the UK and they account for up to 30% of GP consultations in England.

What can a musculoskeletal ultrasound detect?

Musculoskeletal ultrasound can often provide a clearer picture of your musculature, tendons and other affected structures than either an X-ray, CT or MRI—or the test may compliment those other procedures.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound can help to diagnose a range of injuries and chronic conditions, including tendonitis, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff tears, joint problems, and masses such as tumors or cysts.
