COVID 19 (SARS-COV-2) - PCR - SWAB
The purpose of this PCR swab test is to detect the presence of the SARS-COV-2 viral antigen (genetic information of the virus), rather than the presence of the body’s immune response, or antibodies to COVID-19 (SARS-COV-2 virus).
This test will tell you if you had COVID-19 when you took the sample.
This test is performed by using a swab (looks like a long cotton bud) to collect throat/nasal samples.
Results are sent to the lab for analysis on the same day as your test and will be available in days.
We send the results directly to you by email and they will state whether the result was “negative”/” not detected” or “positive/detected”.
The pathology report you receive will only state the result of the test, which may be sufficient with your airline/ country you intend to travel to however if a formal letter from the clinic is required that includes additional information (i.e. date/time of test, results and remarks along with clinic stamp) then this can be purchased at an additional administration charge of £25.
If you have any specific forms that need completing then please contact our customer care to discuss this further.
ln order to make a booking you will need to contact our customer care team as we will need to go over some information as well as COVID related questions as if you have any current symptoms of COVID-19 then we will not be able to book you in and you will need to be in self-isolation.
You can contact our customer care team by clicking on either the book now or call me buttons on this page or going to the contact us page by clicking here.
Many travellers are now required to take a COVID-19 PCR Test for Travel. This is to show they are not carrying the virus. It is also essential that the test is processed by a certified laboratory.
By detecting viral RNA, which will be present in the body before antibodies form or symptoms of the disease are present, the tests can tell whether or not someone has the virus very early on.
The Scan Clinic provide travellers with testing that is certified and approved for use by Public Health England and from a UKAS accredited laboratory.
As countries and airlines are constantly changing their rules on testing, tests should be performed within a specific time frame before departure or landing. This varies from 48 hours to 96 hours, and in some cases 120 hours. Please ensure you are fully aware of the required time frame before you book your appointment and that the test you book is suitable for your destination as all purchases are at your own risk.
It is also important to consult the latest Foreign Office guidance on the suitability of this test for your destination - you can access this by clicking here.
Kindly note, we are not be able to assist you with finding information on your specific travel conditions, etc.
If your COVID-19 PCR swab test result is positive/ detected then you must follow the national guidelines. You and your household will need to self-isolate and you will need to cancel your travel plans.
For more information and advice please go to the NHS COVID-19 website by clicking here or contact your GP over the telephone.
* As COVID-19 is a notifiable disease, the Health Protection Team/Public Health may be notified if your results are positive/ detected.
A negative COVID-19 PCR swab test means that you were not infected with COVID-19 when you took the test. If you have no symptoms, you can continue with your travel plans along with any travel advice and information from the Government/ Foreign Office, you can access this by clicking here.
The COVID-19 PCR swab test is an Antigen tests which will identify if you have COVID-19 at the time of taking the test and is performed by collecting a nasal/throat sample.
The COVID-19 Antibody test is a blood test which can identify if you have been previously infected with COVID-19. The body’s response to the virus is to produce antibodies as part of the natural immune system response and so this blood test determines the presence of these antibodies in the sample of blood taken. Antibodies can be detected 14 days or more following exposure or onset of symptoms.
Most patients who recover from COVID-19 have been found to produce antibodies that is thought to provide them with immunity from re-infection. However as this is a new virus there is still ongoing research into this and it should not be assumed that a positive results indicates that you are partially or fully protected nor does it indicate any length of time of immunity. This may change as the research into this area develops.
Note: Some countries have instructed travellers to take this additional test which we also offer at our clinic. It is important to note that not all people who have previously been infected will have developed antibodies.
We also offer the COVID-19 Antibody blood test - you can find more details about this by clicking the button below:
