Our early pregnancy scan, also called a first pregnancy 6-week scan or viability scan, is designed to provide you with early reassurance in the first stages of your pregnancy journey.
Typically the early pregnancy scan can be performed if you’re at least 6 weeks pregnant, but can in some instances, be performed earlier. This 6-week scan allows you to check in on your pregnancy to ensure it is progressing well and hopefully see your baby and baby’s heartbeat.
Your First Early Scan at The Scan Clinic
Finding out that you’re pregnant is one of the most memorable moments of your life. The first few weeks are a time of tremendous excitement, and the first scan with the hospital (12-week scan) can feel like a lifetime away. Our first pregnancy scan provides an opportunity to check in on your pregnancy beforehand to ensure all is well. Our London clinic is equipped with the latest high-end ultrasound machines and you can view your scan on our large HD TVs as it happens. Our qualified early pregnancy scan experts have a wealth of experience and either hold or have held NHS roles. You can also bring your partner or guest to your scan and share your unique experience. Your scan will be documented, a report and 2 complimentary scan pictures will be provided.
At Your Early Pregnancy Scan
At your early pregnancy scan, you can also gain insight into how many weeks pregnant you are (gestational age), and if you’re having single pregnancy or multiple pregnancies. It can also how well everything is progressing in the pregnancy. The scan aims to provide information about the viability of the pregnancy and hopefully some peace of mind. Should you require further care, we have excellent links with our colleagues in local early pregnancy units across NHS hospitals.
This scan will check the viability of the pregnancy. The viability is determined by detecting a fetal heartbeat. Our viability scan from 6 weeks pregnant is an opportunity to see if all is going to plan and is often used for reassurance, particularly if there are concerns. Normally at 6 weeks, we would expect to see a pregnancy sac (gestational sac), a yolk sac and a fetal pole or baby, which looks like a small tadpole at these early stages.
Common Reasons for an Early Baby Pregnancy Scan
If you’re experiencing any vaginal bleeding, vaginal spotting or unusual pelvic pain, an early pregnancy scan can help provide you with peace of mind and find out for certain how your pregnancy is progressing. When you come for your 6-week scan at The Scan Clinic London, we’ll make sure that you feel comfortable, relaxed and well-prepared for the experience.
