Why choose us for your Reassurance Scan

We are a multi award winning clinic based in London, with awards from Whatclinic clinic of the year, GHP outstanding patient care and LUX best private ultrasound provider to name a few. Our clinical lead Mr. Usman is well known and respected in the industry and has been featured in the Huffington Post and performed scans live on ITV.

We pride ourselves on providing the best quality service we can which is why we are trusted by GP's, doctors, physiotherapists, midwives and many other healthcare professionals.

Our mission of better quality healthcare for everyone is at the heart of everything we do and drives us to do the best we can for each and every patient that we see. Our team of experts have years of experience and are fully registered and regulated meaning you are in safe hands with us.

About the Reassurance Scan

Our reassurance scan is a great opportunity to check up on your baby. We can see your baby’s heartbeat and check for movements. If you would like we can also determine the sex of your baby and find out if you’re having a baby boy or a baby girl. Our gender accuracy is over >99.9%. We use the latest ultrasound technology and our expert ultrasound staff provide you with detailed information about the pregnancy. Our clinic is located in East London, making it convenient for expectant parents living in the area to come in for the scan.

As soon as you find out you’re expectant, you can’t help but worry about the baby’s well-being. Are they healthy? Are they getting enough nutrition? Should you expect any problems along the way? These questions can get in the way of enjoying the pregnancy experience.

A reassurance scan can provide valuable answers to these questions and help you feel confident about your baby’s health and condition.

Your Reassurance Scan at The Scan Clinic

With our reassurance scan, you’ll be able to see how your baby is progressing. Our scans are safe and utilise the latest ultrasound technology. The Scan Clinic is equipped with the latest high-end ultrasound machines and you can view your scan on our large HD TV’s as it happens. Our qualified pregnancy scan experts provide a wealth of experience and either hold or have held NHS roles. You can also bring your partner or guest with you to your scan to share the unique experience with you. We offer flexible scan appointments, making it easy for you to schedule the scan around your busy life.

Having a baby is a wonderful experience, but for some, the lead-up to the birth can be an anxious time. You may feel worried that your baby is not moving around as much as you’d like and the date of your next NHS scan or the birth itself can feel like a dreadfully long time away.

Our reassurance scan aims to provide you with the peace of mind that you’re seeking. It’s a chance to see your baby again on the screen and check baby’s movements & listen to baby’s heartbeat, though if you’d like the additional peace of mind that measurements, weight estimation and chart results can provide, or have certain health problems we recommend that you have a growth scan instead.

What is a Reassurance Scan?

A reassurance scan is a vital ultrasound available from 13 weeks of gestation onwards. This type of scan is available when parents are concerned about the pregnancy or simply want to be extra cautious.

During the scan, our sonographer takes time to carry out a check on your baby and other issues relating to the pregnancy, like how many weeks of pregnancy you have left, your placenta and the amniotic fluid.

The scan can reassure you that your baby is developing as expected. During the scan, we can also screen for conditions such as pre-eclampsia, cervical length and positioning of the placenta, among other factors.

During the scan, the sonographer may also check your baby’s positioning, trace and listen to its heartbeat, and assess your pelvic area.

An early reassurance scan is also vital in confirming whether you have a single pregnancy or are carrying multiple babies. The scan can detect their separate amniotic sacs and heartbeats if you are carrying multiple babies.

You don’t need a referral for the reassurance scan, but we will provide you with a report that can be passed to your doctor or midwife for continuity of care.

Types of Reassurance Scans

There are two types of reassurance scans distinguished based on the gestation period at which the scan is taken:

Early Reassurance Scan (6-10 Weeks)

This early reassurance scan is ideal for expectant parents who want to avoid anxiety or have had previous issues and long journeys to conceive and want to take utmost precautions. An early reassurance scan provides peace of mind, rules out early miscarriage concerns and ectopic pregnancy and addresses some worrying symptoms, such as cramping or possible bleeding.

Anytime Early Reassurance Scan (6-17 Weeks)

If you’re past the 10-week window, you can still take the anytime reassurance scan before the 17th week of gestation. This scan is for already confirmed, viable pregnancies and acts as a bonding experience for the parents and the baby. The purpose of the scan is to confirm that your baby is doing well and progressing well.

What Can Reassurance Scans Detect?

During the reassurance scan, the sonographer will check on various aspects of the baby’s development, including the following:

First Trimester

  • The sonographer will confirm that the pregnancy is viable and that there is a foetal heartbeat
  • During the scan, the sonographer will also measure the size of the embryo and determine its gestational age
  • The scan will also check to see if there is more than one embryo present
  • The sonographer will check to ensure that the pregnancy is not ectopic

Second and Trimester

If you take the reassurance scan during the second or third trimester, it will reveal the following:

  • The baby’s growth rate is monitored by measuring its head, abdomen, and thigh bone to ensure normal growth.
  • The strength and regularity of the heartbeat.
  • Movements and stretching of the baby
  • The amount of amniotic fluid available
  • The position and health of the placenta

Benefits of Reassurance Scan

Reassurance scans are not crucial scans but are nonetheless good to have for several reasons, such as:

To Alleviate Your Concerns

Expectant parents who have experienced complications in previous pregnancies or first-time parents might be worried about the baby’s development. A reassurance scan can help alleviate your concerns by checking the baby’s positioning, tracing the heartbeat, and assessing your ovaries and pelvic area.

Confirm Single or Multiple Pregnancy

An early reassurance scan presents an ideal opportunity to confirm whether you are carrying one or more babies. The scan can detect multiple separate amniotic sacs and heartbeats if you are carrying twins.

Find Out When Your Baby is Due to Arrive

The reassurance scan can give you a more accurate conception and due date by measuring the baby. This will facilitate adequate planning for the baby’s arrival and help you get maternity leave on time.

I have used the this clinic at the recommendation of my friend who had a positive experience. I... have used this clinic looking for reassurance before my gallbladder removal operation. The appointment was quickly booked for the next day to suit my needs. The scan was performed by a very well spoken, professional person. The whole experience was very positive, as expected from a private clinic. From the experience I have had, I can highly recommend this more

I've been to this clinic 4 times over the past 7 years for both pregnancy scans and health scans.... What sterling services they consistently provide! Booking is always easy either online or over the phone, minimum waiting time, and calming environment. What's most impressive is that Mr Usman always explained the scan results thoroughly in a calm and professional way on site and in a report, and quickly spotted issues that both my hospital scan and community clinic scan completely missed (the sonographer at the hospital even asked where I did my scan as she was impressed)! This helped me eventually get timely referral and free from lots of stress. I always feel being well looked after by the team and will wholehearted recommend them to anyone who is looking for efficient, caring and professional more

Important Notes

  • Please bring your pregnancy book with previous scan results (if you have had your first NHS scan) to your appointment as we will not be able to scan you without them.
  • All scans are performed to accomplish the main objective only.
  • This scan is not a screening test for fetal abnormalities.
  • Sometimes at the scan, we may not detect the heartbeat or visualise the fetus on the screen. In such instances, this could be because it’s too early for the ultrasound scan to detect the pregnancy or could indicate that a miscarriage has occurred. In the event of this happening, please be reassured that our trained staff are on hand to offer advice and guidance on next steps.
  • Twin / multiple pregnancies incur an additional charge of £45 (12 weeks onwards).
  • For scans with gender assessment included  (16 weeks onwards), any information regarding the sex of the baby is not guaranteed & ultrasound alone is not 100% accurate as some babies can be ambiguous. Your practitioner will only provide you with information about the gender if they feel confident to do so from the ultrasound scan. The Scan Clinic or its staff can not be in any way held responsible upon the reliance of such information.
  • We may require details of your GP / Health Care Professional which will be requested from you before or at the time of your scan.
  • Our pregnancy scans do not replace or substitute any scan you have or will have with the NHS / maternity care provider.
